It’s become colder since we joined the EU!

It's official, temperatures have fallen since we joined the EU in 1975.

The chart below shows the mean temperature anomaly compared to 1981-2010.

Scotland and Ireland as well as northern England became colder, although temperatures hovered close to average in England and Wales.

For our (former) European partners temperatures have warmed considerably, most notably over Spain and parts of the former Yugoslavian states.

But the warmth has brought about more rain for those same places. This chart shows average rainfall anomaly and notice how it's been wetter want average over much of central Europe. Western Ireland has become wetter, but eastern Scotland and much England and Wales have seen no change in precipitation. However, Nicola Sturgeon should be pleased because it's become much drier in northern and eastern Scotland, as well as in parts of eastern England.
