Snow update Tuesday & Wednesday

Latest ideas for Tuesday & Wednesday snow accumulations are in, as are thoughts on the areas likely to be hit.

Models seem to be consistent overall, although as always with snow this is going to be proving  little tricky, especially in northern England and the low ground of Scotland.

Trick is to work on high level routes across the Pennines, Southern Uplands, Highlands and Grampians being particularly affected Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday, with snow to over the hills of Wales and northwest England.

So, here we are at midday Tuesday afternoon, Hatched areas showing snow into western Scotland and some starting to fall hills of Wales....

 

By 3pm Tuesday afternoon it's snow over hills of western Scotland, southwest Scotland, northwest England and Wales. Snow heights by then around 150m in Scotland, 300m northern England, 400m Wales...

 

By rush hour Tuesday evening (6pm) there's a widespread area of snow predicted in central and southern Scotland, the Pennines, NW England, and the highest ground of north Wales. Could be some snow over the tops of the Peak District too and perhaps the Staffordshire Moorlands, although this very wet.

 

Then by 9pm Tuesday evening significant accumulation in still falling snow Scotland, hills of northern England and again extends south to the high ground of Peak District and Staffs Moors...

 

And thats where it stays by midnight, although clearing by then western Scotland and Wales. Although notice the extent south of the snow into the central and eastern Midlands, could be some wet stuff at low levels by then ...

 

It's also worth noting that there is a risk that over northeast England and eastern Scotland we could be looking at snow levels closer to 1000ft, perhaps even lower.

It's still snowing in the east (high ground) by 7am on Wednesday morning with snow showers in Scotland....

Here's forecast accumulations by Wednesday morning ...

This matches with the ARPEGE model (above) so reasonable agreement in how this one pans out.

Of course, it is snow though!
