The general theme of the weather through this coming week is "mixed & cool" so here are five "things to know" about what the weather has in store for us.

1 - Monday sees further showers and outbreaks of rain for many. The heaviest and most persistent rain expected over eastern Scotland. Best chance of a dry day in the Midlands.

2 - Northeasterly winds start spreading across the country on Tuesday though low pressure holds on in the far southeast bringing further outbreaks of rain here. Turning colder for northern and western areas.

3 - Pressure builds a little into Wednesday bringing a cold but largely dry day for most areas. Cloud builds from the west bringing spots of rain into Ireland and western parts of the UK later.

4 - Staying cold on Thursday with low pressure bringing unsettled conditions to southern parts of Ireland and the UK. Hill snow to the north. Gales possible to the south.

5 - Uncertainty around Friday's forecast as two areas of low pressure stay close by. It may be that Friday is mostly dry but dull with rain arriving from the west later.
