On the morning of 10th January 1982 a temperature of -26.1C was recorded at harper-Adams college in Shropshire. With snow on the ground and clear skies, the perfect recipe for very low temperatures ensued. On the same night -27.2C was recorded at Braemar.

It's a long way off, but interesting to see forecast temperatures for midnight next Friday from ECMWF. Snow is again on the ground according to that model and skies have cleared. The recipe is there!!!!
Of course, much can and will change, but interesting to see such a depth of cold across the country.
