1st June is the start of the official hurricane seasoning the Atlantic basin. Activity is usually limited early in June, but there have been hurricanes in the early stage of the month in previous years. The graph below from NOAA shows the storms per day through to the end of December.

This will come as something of a shock after the heat and dry weather recently. You'd struggle to find such a contrasting chart than that for next Tuesday. Low pressure returns, rain sweeps east and temperatures fall. All in the vagaries of spring/early summer weather in the British Isles.
