Simon, I’m not a statistician but in your averaging of the three monthly averages I think you’ve ignored the fact that February was a shorter month. If you allow for the 31/31/28 day samples, the overall mean comes to 6.79 – which does actually beat the 6.77 record from 1869.
Sorry to come in late on this, and maybe you’ve already covered this elsewhere.
I really appreciate the forecasts by the way, and will be signing up again for the sailing forecasts when the season starts.
Hi Sean, thanks for the comment and double checking. The data is the mean for each of the months (including February) divided by 3. That gives the average for the winter? am I correct in this? Well worth checking my maths ha, ha!
