There's the potential for much of the south of the UK and Ireland to witness the most significant, widespread snow event for several years this weekend.

Sunday 4pm Update
+ Snow continues to fall steadily through Midlands and Wales and well as parts of southern England (see precipitation type forecast to midnight below)
+ Further 2 to 4cm accumulations are likely
+ Widespread icy conditions, sever frost northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland (minimum temperatures map for Sunday night below)
+ Light snow for rush hour Monday southern Midlands and SE England
+ Rain, sleet and snow affecting parts of East Anglia and southeast England through Monday


Sunday 8am Update
+ Snow falling heavily through Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia, nudging into the far south of northern England as well as central Ireland
+ Forecast depths of 15-30cm hills in west, 5-12cm for most other areas but could be 10-20cm in more susceptible lower lying areas by days end
+ Snow will be most persistent in next couple of hours and then slowly ease but continue to fall Midlands, Wales and parts of central southern England as well as central Ireland well into this evening
+ Drifting of snow may occur due to the stiff breeze
+ Snow flurries arrive on eastern coasts of England this afternoon
+ Snow showers north & west Scotland

Saturday Evening Update
+ Midday GFS run now showing low slightly further south
+ Heavy snow mid to north Ireland, Wales, Midlands and East Anglia (see below model weather forecast Sunday morning) as well as south of northern England
+ Could be some wintry weather in northeastern areas later
+ Drifting seems more likely Midlands and eastern England
+ Snow then edges south through Sunday afternoon into southern Wales and southern England
+ Amounts of 10-20cm hills, 5-10cm low ground

Saturday Afternoon Update
+ Latest EURO4 and GFS has eased a little on snowfall totals and shifted snow line slightly further north
+ Still significant totals through Ireland, Wales, Midlands and East Anglia as well as south of northern England (see EURO4 snow depth map below)
+ Mondays low now further east with reduced snow threat on Monday although snow showers west, north and east coasts.

Saturday 9am Update
+ Most snow on Sunday expected mid-north Wales, Midlands and south of southern England
+ 10-20cm high ground, 5 to 10cm low levels, locally more (forecast depth chart for 3pm Sunday shown below, looks reasonable)
+ Central and northern Ireland also at risk, 2-5cm here
+ Strong winds Midlands and eastern England
+ Current snow line expected north of line from Shannon-St Davids-Gloucester-Harwich
+ Snow risk continues into the evening and overnight through Midlands Wales, southern and eastern England, spreading south (see precip type chart below for midnight to 6am Monday)
