Temperatures on the rise, but for how long?

I spoke in yesterdays Look Ahead and the Fast Forecast about how temperature look likely to be rising through this weekend and into next week.

In fact, the 8-day temperature forecast showing it really well. In the chart below the red line is temperature and you can see how this rises.

So we can expect quite a change into next week as warmer air arrives off the Atlantic. But how long may this last?

Well, indications right now are that the warmer air is here to stay for a while. I actually do think we may be saying goodbye to winter.

ECMWF and the GFS Ensemble models all go with the idea of the days becoming warmer. Pressure builds to the south as a ridge of high pressure, and this continues to feed in the warmer air.

The main question for next week then is how wet it becomes. Right now I'm not expecting much rainfall, and anything that does arrive is likely to be fairly light and showery. Yes there will be some wetter weather here and there, probably particularly for Northwest Scotland. but overall rainfall should be below average.

Hopefully soil temperatures will be picking up and so overall it looks set to be a good growing week!
