Sunspot ‘explodes’ and sends 5 Coronal Mass Ejections towards Earth (Updated)

Hold on tight folks, this could be an amazing event.

Sunspot AR3664 has flung several CME's towards Earth in the past couple of days and they are due to hit this weekend.

NASA is advising that we may experience a severe geomagnetic storm as a result of these CME's.

It's a category 4 event, and is known as a Carrington-Class event, named after an event observed by English amateur astronomer Richard Carrington who observed a Solar storm in 1859. Take a look here for more on that.

Get set for some massive auroras this weekend, let's just hope for some clear skies.

Below is the location of AR3664 and also the impact a category 4 storm may have, courtesy of ApaceWeather.com.

Enjoy!
