As the year draws to a close you would be forgiven for thinking the weather may take a breather...but no chance of that!

Lots going on through today and tomorrow as a storm system moves east through Ireland and the UK bringing colder weather, snow, heavy rain and severe gales.

Phew! Where do we start???

Well today see winds increasing and gales for many, mild though with the cold air held at bay north of Scotland. Then the fun begins.

As New Year's Eve revellers in northern Scotland start to feel the chill with snow over he Highlands and north, so the party goers of northern England, Wales and the north Midlands are in for a soaking. A risk of flooding in places here. Add to that the gusting winds of over 50mph and 2025 comes in like a lion.

The for New Year's Day heavy rain continues through parts of the south of northern England, Wales and the Midlands, further enhanced by the cold air in Scotland now penetrating south. This enhances the flooding risk. Scotland sees heavy snow showers and Arctic conditions.

There could be a spell of 50 to 60mph winds along southern counties of England on New Year's Day with very rough seas.

Eventually things calm down as the cold air pushes through all areas by the evening on Wednesday and then takes us into a cold rest of the week.
