Statistically the start of meteorological autumn this week...

1 - Changeable: A mixed weather regime with spells of rain coming in from the Atlantic with a fairly standard distribution of rainfall where the northwest is the wettest. Similar patterns look likely to continue in the longer range beyond next weekend too.

2 - Limited rain south: Whilst some of the frontal rain will try and spill southeast, there's really only occasional bits and pieces over the Home Counties and southeast corner. Western  and northern hills will see more regular rain with heavy falls.

3 - Warmest in the south: Often into the low 20s, becoming a more humid feel for all and reaching 25C by midweek in the southeast. Nearer average 16 to 20C north and west.

4 - Often breezy: A fresh westerly on Monday then commonly southwesterly through the week ahead, strong and gusty at times, occasional gales northern Scotland. Often F5-F6 through the English Channel, gusts of 20-25mph inland too, stronger around the hills.

5 - No frosts: Occasionally dipping to between 5 and 10C mainly in the north and rural Wales, but we're avoiding the risk of frost for the foreseeable future. Some of the more humid air will keep temperatures in the 12 to 15C range overnight especially in the south.
